Photography -action cameras

Another camera we take on holiday is the action camera. The GoPro was developed for sale in 2004 so this is a fairly new thing – ours is a cheaper version of the GoPro.
This camera is designed to record various physical activities when it wouldn’t be wise to use a regular camera. This camera is fully waterproof i.e. to a “film the coral reef” level, it has been built to take a fair bit of punishment and is fully shockproof.
The camera is very small and very light, it can be attached securely to your body or e.g. handlebars. Or, if you want to do something interesting and film from different heights you could attach it to a kite or your dog!
It can take still photos or videos. They have a wide angled field of view which some people don’t like but it does capture both the scenery and the activity. I find you can easily crop the photo without losing focus. Some of the cameras do offer wide, medium or narrow settings.
Many of the action cameras uses 4K resolution which means it can shoot crystal clear video.
You can transfer your photos to your smart phone using wifi. Batteries tend to offer around 90 minutes of filming before needing changing.
From our experience we have found it quite hard to see where you are shooting as the screen is so small, so if you are photographing specific action like someone surfing past you, you might miss. But if you are photographing something less specific like life underwater, it works really well. Also if you are using it in the sea there can be water drops on the pictures. We would hope to get a handful of album worthy photos from taking around c. 20.
However this camera allows you to photograph in places you never previously could, and capture memories which are often exciting and laugh out loud memories.

I think the splashes work really well in this photo, it is far more dynamic than the photo below.

You can see the wide angled lens on this one and it has already been cropped a little. I definitely took this photo - I might have taken the top two, or it might have been Peter. I have cropped and touched up the top two.
